Last night we were treated to a free comedy show at the Johannesburg Toastmasters. We hosted our annual humorous speech and table topics contest. We had 15 people in attendance, 5 of whom were contestants and one was a club visitor who wanted more practise with competition speaking, LeeAnne Masilela of Wits Business School Toastmasters. Our contestants were: Amiel Hololal, Christian Nyakanyanga, LeeAnne Masilela, Linda Thompson, and Sipho Mda. The Chief Judge was Linda Van van Deventer, and we had three other judges: Des Smith, Luther Feros, and Zoleka Bosman. Our Contest Chair was Luis De Sousa and he did a sterling job.The Humourous speech contest was a prepared speech contest, and the topic for the Table Topics Contest was “Made in South Africa”. We heard some very creative renditions of this topic. All five speeches were totally different.
Our president Christian Nyakanyanga pulled rank on us. He scooped both prizes with absolutely astonishing speeches, he won both competitions. His prepared speech for the Humourous speech contest was titled “Let Go”. Second prize winners were Linda Thompson the Table Topics Contest, and Sipho Mda for the Humourous Speech contest with his speech titled “Find a Way”.
Our next week we will be us hosting the area L3 contest and as a result we will not have our normal meeting which was scheduled for the 16th of September. Therefore on the 16th we are hosting the other clubs in our area for the Area L3 Humouous Speech and Table Topics Contest.
Our next club meeting, with the Grizzly Bear, will be on the 7th of October.
